Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Study Shield mobile application ("the App") operated by Study Shield ("we," "our," or "us"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Study Shield, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are creating a student account for a minor, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of that minor and consent to their use of the App under your supervision.
2. Description of Service
Study Shield is a mobile application that helps parents create study reward plans for students. The App allows parents to define study schedules, set reward amounts, and configure penalty rates. Students earn rewards by staying focused during scheduled study sessions, with time away from the App deducted from rewards at the configured penalty rate.
3. Accounts
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms
4. Parent and Student Accounts
Parent accounts can create study plans, link student accounts, set reward amounts, and monitor study sessions. Parents are solely responsible for determining appropriate reward amounts and study schedules.
Student accounts are intended to be created under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Students can view their assigned plans, start study sessions, and track their earned rewards.
5. Subscriptions and Payments
Study Shield offers both free and premium subscription tiers:
- Free tier: Limited to 1 study plan, 1 active plan, and 1 linked student
- Premium tier: Unlimited plans, active plans, and linked students
Premium subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Payment is charged to your App Store or Play Store account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions through your device's account settings.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective refund policies. We do not process payments or refunds directly.
6. Rewards and Payments Between Users
Study Shield tracks reward amounts and calculates earnings based on study session performance. However, Study Shield does not process, facilitate, or guarantee any financial transactions between parents and students. The actual payment of rewards from parent to student is entirely outside the App and is the sole responsibility of the parent. Study Shield is a tracking and motivation tool only.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the App's systems or security
- Manipulate study session data or circumvent focus-tracking mechanisms
- Create accounts using false or misleading information
- Use the App to harass, abuse, or harm another person
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the App
8. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, graphics, and content, is owned by Study Shield and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the App without our written permission.
9. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We are not responsible for the accuracy of study session tracking in all circumstances, including device-specific variations in background/foreground detection.
Study Shield is a productivity and motivation tool. We make no guarantees about academic performance, study outcomes, or the educational effectiveness of using the App.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Study Shield shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the App. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership, warranty disclaimers, and limitations of liability.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms at any time by posting the updated version within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
13. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
